Welcome to Tangipahoa Parish Child Nutrition Services!
A Message from the Child Nutrition Director....
On behalf of the Tangipahoa School System, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our Child Nutrition Department's homepage.
Thank you for allowing us to serve your child healthy and nutritious meals! We look forward to providing your child with a variety of made from scratch entrees, whole grain rich foods, an assortment of fruits and vegetables, and low fat or skim milk choices. Tangipahoa Parish participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs and our menus are designed to meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans as well as United States Department of Agriculture guidelines.
Students are offered five menu items daily for lunch. Of the five items offered and to meet reimbursable meal requirements, each student must select three items. Due to new USDA regulations, all students in grades Pre-K-12 must select a fruit or vegetable in addition to or as one of the three items. USDA has implemented these changes to encourage students to eat more fruits and vegetables. USDA has also lowered their requirements for total calories, sodium and saturated fat for all menus. This school year, we will be offering our Middle school/Jr high school students (7th and 8th graders) a choice menu similar to our high school students. They will have a choice of our daily sandwich line or our district's famous "Mama's Kitchen" hot line. Each year we strive to create healthy but delicious cycle menus, please check the menu section of the website for the latest menu options. Our child nutrition employees take pride in preparing an appealing meal for the students and we hope they will enjoy their meals this school year.
In an effort to improve the health and performance of our students, we always encourage students to eat breakfast.  We will offer multiple breakfast choices daily in the schools to give our students a variety. Based on students' feedback, we have learned that students always appreciate a hot breakfast choice daily. We will continue to offer choices daily, but one of the choices will include a hot breakfast choice. Studies have proven that students who eat breakfast everyday improve academic performance, increase ability to focus and concentrate on school work. Please encourage your child to eat breakfast each and every day with us. We are happy to serve them!

We have been informed by the State Department of Education and the United States Department of Agriculture that due to the recent flood, all Tangipahoa Parish School System students will receive meals at school for no charge for the period of August 24 - September 30, 2016.  If any student paid for meals today, August 24, his or her lunch account will be credited. Parents should complete their online meal application so that when this special program ends on September 30,  those eligible for the continuation of free or reduced meal benefits will not have their benefits interrupted. If there are any questions, please contact Kendra Reed, Director of Child Nutrition, at
