Hammond Eastside Elementary Magnet School will hold its second annual Art Gala this Friday, May 3, 2013, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The school would like to extend an invitation to the entire community to come and view all of the art work. Every child that attends Hammond Eastside Magnet will have art work featured. Children MUST be accompanied by an adult. Dress is Sunday Best. The theme this year is “Making the PYP Happen” in honor of their endeavor to become an IB World School. Hammond Eastside Magnet is a candidate school for the IB World School Organization. With the chief method of instruction being inquiry, students have completed inquiries on their art subjects in order to complete the projects. Teachers have used what they have taught throughout the school year through their Units of Inquiry when planning these projects.They are very proud of their children and invite everyone to come and help them celebrate. Sumner High Class of 2013 gifted the school by naming the school's halls and having signs made to be placed in the school. With these names: Jewel, Cowboy, Pride, Spurs, and Lariat; the seniors say, "Goodbye." Principal Lisa Fussell is shown above with Kati Fussell and Taylor Sharkey (class officers).
On Wednesday, April 17th, over 30 students at Independence Elementary School received backpacks from the B.L.A.S.T. (Backpacks Launching Academic Success for Tomorrow) program. The First United Methodist Church of Hammond along with many sponsors and donors were able to supply these backpacks to many children throughout the Tangipahoa
