The Tangipahoa Parish School Board recognizes that discrimination on the basis of sex is a violation of Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972, 20 U.S.C. Sec. 1681, and its implementing regulation at 34 C.F.R. Sec. 106, 31, which provides that “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded form participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” The School Board maintains a firm policy prohibiting all forms of discrimination and all forms of sexual harassment on the part of an employer-to-employee, employee-to-student, or any other combination of these relationships within the workplace or school setting. The Board does not condone and will do everything within its power to provide all students and employees with an environment free from unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical contact or any ongoing communications constituting sexual abuse, as defined and otherwise prohibited by state and federal law and by the policy set forth. Reports of sexual harassment should be submitted to the school principal first. The district’s point of contact is Gwen Myers, Coordinator of Title IX at the School System Central Office, 59656 Puleston Road, Amite, LA 70422.
