Reimbursement for Professional Development for Initial Certification and/or Highly Qualified in Content Area of Current Teaching Position

These funds are only for reimbursement for professional development for initial certification and/or highly qualified in content area of current teaching position. The reimbursement process includes the following documents. All documents must be sent together in a packet at one time or the packet will be sent back to the applicant. Deadlines should be adhered to. Please direct any inquiries to Title I Supervisor, Theresa Hamilton at theresa.hamilton@tangischools.org

Funds have been awarded to Tangipahoa Parish School System to recruit and retain teachers and administrators within the parish. A portion of the funding has be allocated to provide tuition assistance for those individuals seeking initial certification, advanced educational degrees, add-on certification, and highly qualified status. Also, individuals taking the praxis exam for certification or to become highly qualified may receive reimbursement for the test registration fee. Finally, individuals holding non-standard teaching certificates Temporary Authority to Teach (TAT), Out of Field Authority to Teach (OFAT), and Temporary Employment Permit (TEP) teachers may be reimbursed for praxis workshop registration fees in preparation for taking a required test for initial certification or becoming highly qualified. Acceptance of these funds requires the recipient to sign a Letter of Agreement (LOA) to commit to work in the Tangipahoa Parish School System for three (3) years. If the three year commitment is not fulfilled, then all funds received must be reimbursed to the school system.

Tangipahoa Parish School System reserves the right to waive or enforce the requirements of repayment and the three year commitment in the event of extenuating circumstances, medical or catastrophic reasons, termination of the employee, reduction in force, or any other circumstances at the recommendation of the Superintendent or his designee.

The required forms and information about reimbursement may be found on the Human Resources page of the school system’s website under “Hurricane Education Assistance Program H.E.A.P.”

Anyone having any question please contact Reginald H. Elzy in the Human Resources Department at 748-2507 or reginald.elzy@tangischools.org .

Important Instructions for Changes on Teaching Certificates
Listed below are the most frequently requested changes to Teaching Certificates. Any changes to a certificate require the following materials which must be forwarded to the Personnel Department at the time that the requested change is submitted:
(All checks and money orders must be made payable to the LOUISIANA STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION)
There is a new form called Professional Conduct Form that will need to be sent with any changes on certificates.
ADDING A DEGREE:
Official Transcript, Original Certificate and a $25.00 check or money order.
ADDITIONAL AREA/S OF CERTIFICATION:
Written explanation of areas to be added, Official Transcript and a $25.00 check or money order.
Note - The Certification, SUPERVISOR OF STUDENT TEACHING can only be added if you are eligible for a 'B' Certificate or already on a 'B' Certificate or applying for an 'A' Certificate.
APPLYING FOR 'B' or 'A' CERTIFICATE UPGRADE:
Complete and return the enclosed request form (principals, please ask your secretary to keep one of these Application for Higher Certificate forms as your MASTER), copy of most current certificate, and a $25.00 check or money order. All 'C' Certificates MUST be upgraded after teacher has had it for (3) years (see issue date at top of teaching certificate) A 'B' Certificate is Valid For Life. If the teacher receives a Masters and also has (5) five years teaching in their Certified field, their Certificate should be upgraded to an 'A' Certificate.
Note - All 'C' Certificates expire after (3) three years! If the teacher does not have (3) three years teaching in their CERTIFIED FIELD, then the Certificate needs to be EXTENDED. No form is needed to extend a Certificate, only a copy of certificate and a $25,00 check or money order.
Principals should check the certificates for teachers who hold a 'C' Certificate and determine when it needs to be upgraded. If the Certificate expires at the end of this school year or during the summer , our office needs to apply for the upgrade before school is out.

THIS WILL ELIMINATE DEFICIENCIES FOR OUT-DATED TEACHING CERTIFICATES ON THE ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORTS.
NAME CHANGES: A copy of teacher's marriage license, copy of teaching certificate, a $25.00 check or money order, and a written statement which states the exact name as teacher wants it to appear on the teaching certificate are needed. If the teacher is divorced and wishes to drop married name, a copy of divorce decree, copy of teaching certificate, and a $25.00 check or money order is needed.
The State Department has requested that all changes in teaching certificates should be handled through the Personnel Department. Send all transactions Attention: Regena Anzalone. Numerous requests that were sent directly to the State Department by teachers have been returned because they lack the signature of the appropriate School System Official. Principals are not authorized to sign these APPLICATION FOR HIGHER CERTIFICATE FORMS. If there are any questions concerning these procedures or teachers have questions concerning filling in the forms, please contact the Personnel Office at 985-748-2505 or 985-748-2503 and we will be happy to assist you.
ALL FORMS CAN NOW BE DOWNLOADED AT www.teachlouisiana.net
