The Tucker Book Club 2009-2010 had their first meeting on Friday, October 30th.  This month, the book read was "Werewolves Don't Run for President."  The students read and discussed the book, answered questions, ate snacks and wore their werewolf claws, hats and masks to celebrate Halloween.  These students will read a chapter book each month and meet in the library to discuss them.  This is the 3rd year Tucker has had a book club for the 2nd graders.

Students are chosen for Book club based on academic achievement in Reading.Scores from Accelerated Reading, DIBELS testing and behavior are taken into account.Books are read on a monthly basis and discussed at our meetings.

Our Next Meeting...

 

 

 

 

On meeting days, we will have book club between 11:00-11:30. (This does not interfere with the lunch schedule.)  Any props, hats, etc. for meetings should be put in a bag, so that they are not a distraction to others.  If possible, also send the book for that month with your child on the day of the meeting.  They may need to refer to it to answer questions about the book.  Reminders will be sent during the week of each meeting.          

October: Werewolves Don’t Run for President - Please have your child read this book by Friday, October 30th.  Our first official meeting will be on that day during school time  Please have them bring their werewolf claws that are with the book.  Also, they can bring a hat or mask to wear during the meeting, since it is Halloween.  We will be taking a picture to send to the paper.

 

November: 102 Dalmations: Junior Novel –Book Club Meeting will be on Wednesday, November 18th. A picture of a pet dog or other animal can be brought for this meeting. I will have a prop made for them to wear in their picture for this month.

 

December: The Dex-Terminator –Book Club Meeting will be on Wednesday, December 16th.  The children can bring a Santa Hat or any other holiday hat/necklace, etc. to wear for this meeting.

 

January: Maximum Boy – Superhero…or Super Thief? –The meeting will be Wednesday, January 6th. I will have a prop made for them to wear in their picture for this month.

 

February: Magic Tree House – Blizzard of the Blue Moon - The meeting will be Wednesday, February 10th.  Students may bring a Mardi Gras hat, necklace, etc. to wear.

 

March: Parachuting Hamsters and Andy Russell - The meeting will be Wednesday, March 17th. Draw and color a picture of something that happened in the book and bring it to the meeting.

 

April: Diary of a Wimpy Kid -  This meeting will be our final meeting.  We are going to do late night at the library this night.  We will also be reading “Horton Hears a Who” this month.  The students can check this one out from the library.  Book club members and their parent will come to the library at 6:00pm to watch the movie, “Horton Hears a Who.”  The students and parents can wear pajamas.  This will be Thursday, April 22nd from 5:30-7:30pm
